Cam girl confidentiality

Protecting your privacy If privacy is a major issue for you, then you may have to really think about whether being a cam girl is the right thing for you. Regardless of the steps and precautions that you follow to protect your privacy and identity, there is always a risk of someone that you know finding you online. Creating a fake online name and personal really helps, but there is never really a full guarantee that your identity will remain secret.

Safety The key to staying safe as a cam girl is ensuring that you don't give away your personal information to members or fans. You definitely don't want to become a victim of stalking and harassment—both of which, unfortunately, exist. Make sure that your online persona is 100% separated from your real life self.

You can find more information on how to manage your safety and privacy below.

Managing your profile and social media

Be sure that you are using a fake stage name, fake age, and giving a vague location, or even none at all. Check out How to sign up and create a profile for more information.

Make sure that you never use any photos that you have shared on mainstream sites because people could then trace you using reverse image search. This could lead to them finding your real-life social media profiles, for example. If you have Facebook, be sure that you look through your privacy settings and set them to the appropriate level so that people can't find you as easily or see your personal information. Many cam girls even choose to change their Facebook name to something short of different from their actual name and to use a non-identifying profile picture. Others decide that it's best if they completely get rid of their Facebook or Twitter account and focus on being a cam girl.

Anything that you post or share with members on your web cam page profile shouldn't include any identifying information. Be sure not to mention any locations or places that you plan to visit, and especially don't share any specific addresses. You really want to find a situation in which a follower knows where you will be and tries to meet you there.

Also, remember to turn off any location-identifying services or apps on your phone or tablet, so that you don't post something with your location by accident. Check your EXIF data(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exchangeable_image_file_format#Privacy_and_security) on your images to make sure that any location information isn't being kept there.

Keeping your address private-wishlists and mailing out goods/presents

Never use your real posting address on anything, including your wishlist. Even if a site says that your address will stay private, there are other ways to track it via delivery tracking or 3rd party sellers, for example. If you don't have one already, get a PO box or a UPS box set up in your stage name. If you can, try to create it outside of your city and/or zip code in order to maximize security.

If you, yourself are shipping something out to your members, remember to use your PO/UPS box as the return address. Shipping things out directly from your house/apartment will reveal your zip code! You'll need to remember to ship your items out from a location outside of your city/zip code in order to keep your address safe.

Blocking specific geographical regions

There is an option on most cam sites called geoblocking, which allows you to block your viewability and access from areas/countries/cities around the world that you would prefer to stay hidden from. This works on the basis of identifying the viewer's IP address and filtering out the locations that you have chosen to block. This only goes so far to protect your privacy, though. For example, if someone from Nevada (a state that you have blocked), travels to California, they can now view your profile. Also, if someone is using a proxy, they can view you no matter what you have blocked. Using a proxy or a VPN is extremely common among viewers, so you should be aware that using geoblocking is not as effective as would seem. It definitely won't guarantee that people from your surrounding area won't be able to find and identify you.

Recorded video clips and video sites

Sometimes, models will be able to find that a video of one of their sessions has been recorded and uploaded to a video (tube) site. Most of these clips involve explicit adult material that a viewer gathered during a private or public show. You can try to contact your host site to send the tube site a notice to get rid of your video. You should be warned, however, that some host sites won't be able to help you out in this situation, and that many actually post videos like this themselves for publicity and advertising. Carefully read through your contract to see if this could be the case.

A cam site's rights to your video content

Before starting to work, you typically have to sign an agreement stating that all video content streamed to the website by the cam girl will become the rightful property of the site itself. Legally speaking, this means that whatever you say or do online is and will remain the property of the cam site. They get the rights to use it as advertising or whatever else they'd like to.

It's possible, for example, that a private show will be used in advertising for XXX sites or internet ads. Your video could also be used alongside a chatbot to make it seem like you are chatting with someone online.

Is it possible for my future employers to find out? Will my family know?

There is a definite possibility that something can come out sooner and later and expose your work as a cam girl. If you really try your best to conceal your real identity and keep it absolutely separate from your online persona, then there is also a chance that this could be avoided, or limit the scope of exposure. If you feel like your life could be ruined or your future career dreams could be jeopardized if people know about your life as a cam girl, then perhaps this is not the best industry for you. Remember that this job isn't for everyone. It takes a certain amount of sacrifice and perhaps a certain type of personality and enthusiasm to make it in this industry. Please be sure that this is really the place for you before signing on for this work.
